Volunteering Opportunities
with FRIENDS of the Heights Libraries
From sorting donated books for our ongoing book sales, to helping bring donated collections of book and media to Library to staffing our Mega Book Sales and the Harvey and Friends Bookshop, we have lots of ways to volunteer your time and energy! Be among FRIENDS and help support our amazing libraries in the Heights.
TO VOLUNTEER:
Call FRIENDS at (216) 932-3600 ext. 1234

BOOK SORTING
Basement book sorting sessions vary depending on the size & volume of donations. Sessions are usually scheduled during the day, on weekdays, and are an hour in length at the Lee Road branch basement at 2345 Lee Rd. (accessible by stairs or elevator.) Sorting notices are e-mailed to volunteers prior to each session.
New sorters are always welcome, and no previous experience is necessary. There is no commitment to show up to every session.
Please note: While book sellers are welcome at book sales, they are not permitted to assist with book sorting.
HARVEY & FRIENDS BOOKSHOP

Bookshop attendants also restock, alphabetize, and straighten book shelves. Times we especially need volunteers include: lunch time, late afternoon, early evening, and Saturdays.
SPECIAL BOOK SALES
In addition to regular book shop operation, the FRIENDS host “$5 Fill-a-bag” book sales on the first Friday of each month as well as semi-annual Mega Book Sales. Volunteer jobs for these special book sales include helping with set up, assisting customers during the sales, restocking the tables with merchandise, and re-boxing unsold books. Mega Book Sales include weekend hours and afternoons.
BOOK DONATION PICK-UPS
Help the FRIENDS by joining our book pick-up team. This group works in small teams to go to homes to pick up larger donations of boxed books. Join our list to be contacted when we have a pick-up scheduled. These are generally during the weekday and of course some agility and ability to lift and move books is preferred. Contact us at info@friendsheightslibraries.
Join the FRIENDS Board of Trustees
Do you know someone who could be described as an energetic, dynamic individual looking for an opportunity to serve our community in a meaningful, positive way? Friends of the Heights Libraries is searching for people meeting that description to serve on the organization’s Board of Trustees.
FRIENDS board members absolutely love the library and have a heart for volunteer leadership. This year, we’re particularly interested in hearing from candidates with marketing and/or creative/writing skills, online and/or retail store experience, membership strategy, and budgeting/forecasting experience. Board members serve three-year-terms attending one board meeting a month and additional time on one or more of the committees.
If this volunteer leadership opportunity sounds like it might be a good fit for you or someone you know, please contact us at info@friendsheightslibraries.org.
You can become a FRIENDS member for as little as $10 a year; like the famous card, membership has its benefits!
